Hood Canal Luxury

A cozy escape from reality.

Be prepared for you adventure...

Brinnon is remote, so plan for it. If you are bringing up a week's worth of food, you probably want to do it at a city store near you before you get here, because once you get past Olympia or Poulsbo, the pickins are slim and expensive. That said, there are options that are both cute and functional, depending on what you want. You will notice a lot of stores in gas stations as you cruise the 101, and YES, those are real stores. All the little towns have their general stores in the gas stations, and we suggest stopping in all of them because they are adorable and filled with local flavor, good coffee, and great souvenirs specific to that spot. It's part of the charm.

HOOD CANAL GROCERY

This is the closest full-service grocery store, and it's about 30 minutes away. If you want fresh produce of any sort, this is the closest place you'll find it.  If you're coming from the South (Olympia) then this is your last stop before you head away from most services. It's right on the 101, in Hoodsport. (Do yourself a favor and get some Heath Bar cookies from the deli.)

BRINNON GENERAL STORE

This is the closest store to our place, about 10 minutes. It should have anything you need that isn't fresh produce. But milk, cereal, eggs, ice cream, beer, wine, shampoo...... Sweet people, here to serve your basic needs. They also have a great stash of souvenirs, often by locals. We have a lot of shirts from here!

YELVIK GENERAL STORE

Do you need a shovel? Rain gear? Boots? Plumbing parts that were packed in the 1960's, but probably still work? Just some salty, and a bit musty, local charm? Phone charger? Firewood? Crab or shrimp pots and bait to make them work? You get the gist. It's all here. If they don't have it to sell, they'll probably let you borrow it, or help you find it. These folks are neighborhood pillars and the store is a portal to another dimension. (Oh, they even had Shrink-to-Fit Levis when I was last there..... if you're old enough to remember those.)

COVE RV PARK & STORE

This is your closest source for high-quality meat, from Bob's Quality meats in Seattle. Bob's handmade sausages and bacon, not to mention gorgeous steaks, are worth the whopping 6-minute drive. They also have an excellent selection of bulk spices, gourmet sauces, and fairly upscale essentials. In the summer, their patio is a great place to sit and eat ice cream while playing the giant checkers. It's just a cute-as-can-be little spot where you can get everything you need to make a great dinner and good wine for happy hour.

HAMA HAMA FARM STORE

Hama Hama is more than just oysters! (Though, what more do you need?) Their little farm store has almost everything you need to make a good meal. You'll also find books, handmade souvenirs, and all sorts of other goodies to take home with you. We often pop in to get dinner fixins' when were there eating our daily oysters. (Yes, daily. Don't judge.)

QUILCENE VILLAGE STORE

This super cute store is a little hippie / artisanal haven. Lots of great organic, gourmet, local delicious options. They have food, drink, crafts, books, stickers, postcards and who knows what else. And just a cute as can be place. Worth the drive, and the pastries are great.

CHIMACUM CORNER FARMSTAND

This is my favorite grocery store in the whole world. It's all as local as can be, the farmers are often there! If you're going to the Finn River cidery, which you should, then you may as well continue to the next intersection, a stone's throw away, and check out this adorable farm stand. Almost all the produce is from local farms, and is some of the best produce I've seen anywhere. Also great selection of frozen seafood and grass-fed meats. Just an adorable store from which you can easily make delicious meals.
